CCM 555 Ethnography of Communication 3.0 Credits

Following an examination of theories about interaction in speech, the course provides an in-depth look at qualitative communication studies. Both transcripts of talk in natural settings and videos of actual interactions will be used. Considers such topics as storytelling (narrative), self-presentation in talk (performance and identity), the construction of gender in communication, literacy, and cross-cultural approaches to politeness.
