About the Program

The master’s program (MS) in Communication, Culture and Media trains students in the basics of research and theory in communication, communication technologies, media and cultural studies. Students focus on work in the areas of mass media, digital and social media, mediated communication, cultural studies, social change, and media. Students work closely with faculty which includes sociologists, media communication scholars, anthropologists, linguists and philosophers.

The program encourages interdisciplinary approaches to the study of communication and media, and students are encouraged to focus on their interests in the field which may lead them to a PhD program in media communication, or advanced positions in the media industries. While the courses in the CCM program are primarily theoretical with an orientation to empirical research, the Communication Culture and Media curriculum is flexible, allowing students to align their programs with their personal academic and professional trajectories. Masters students have the opportunity to work directly with faculty and advanced PhD students to enhance their training in the field.
