About the Program

The Master of Science in Environmental Policy (MSEP) is an interdisciplinary graduate program that equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to address complex environmental challenges through effective policy solutions. The program draws upon multiple academic disciplines, including law, political science, economics, engineering, business, public health, and environmental science, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the factors that influence environmental decision-making.

Students enrolled in the MSEP program complete a strong foundation of core coursework in Public Policy, Environmental Policy, and Economics. In addition, they pursue specialized courses in areas including Environmental Science or Environmental and Occupational Health, allowing them to tailor their studies to their professional interests and career goals. The curriculum is designed to balance theoretical knowledge with practical application, ensuring graduates are prepared to work in government agencies, nonprofit organizations, consulting firms, research institutions, and the private sector.

Beyond the required coursework, students have the flexibility to customize their academic experience through electives. These options may include conducting real-world policy research through a case study thesis, completing a graduate minor in a complementary field, or participating in research opportunities that provide valuable hands-on experience. Personalized academic advising is a key component of the program, helping students identify courses, research projects, and professional opportunities that align with their long-term objectives.

A distinctive feature of the MSEP program is its optional case study research project, which serves as a unifying element of the curriculum. Students who choose this option select a specific environmental policy issue or case and work on it over the course of approximately three academic terms. Through extensive research, analysis, and writing, students develop an in-depth understanding of their chosen topic. By the conclusion of the program, they produce a polished and comprehensive case study that demonstrates their expertise, analytical abilities, and readiness to contribute to environmental policy development and implementation.

Admission Requirements

Applicants to the MSEP will be evaluated on the following:
• A 300-500 word statement of purpose
• Two letters of recommendation
• Transcripts of all college level coursework
• Resume
• A GPA of 3.0 or above is recommended.
• For international students for whom English is not the official language, a TOEFL score of 100 (iBT) or IELTS Overall Band Score of 7.0 is required.
• Completion of 15 minute virtual interview with Program director or relevant faculty member.
