About the Program
The Drexel Master of Science in Physics program provides training in core areas of physics as well as in multiple areas of current research. Coursework includes the core areas of quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, statistical mechanics, classical dynamics, and mathematical physics. Students have the opportunity to take additional courses related to areas of current research, including astrophysics, biophysics, condensed matter physics, particle physics, and physics education research.
A thesis option is available for students looking to continue academic research. With this option, in the second year of the program, students study with leading researchers in a variety of fields in experimental, theoretical, or computational physics. Many Drexel Master of Science graduates opting for the thesis option continue their training in PhD programs. The non-thesis option is appropriate for students interested in other positions in research and education. Non-thesis students also have the option to do research in the department.
The Drexel Physics department regularly hosts colloquia and seminars by distinguished external visitors and maintains an active graduate student association. Master of Science students are eligible for teaching assistantships.

Admission Requirements
Acceptance for graduate study requires a four-year bachelor's degree in physics or a related field from an accredited institution in the United States or an equivalent international institution. Strong undergraduate preparation in the core areas of physics (classical mechanics, electromagnetism, statistical physics and quantum mechanics) is a prerequisite. Acceptance typically requires a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (B) for the last two years of undergraduate work. The average for any graduate work must be at least 3.0.
