About the Program

Drexel's accredited Teaching Certification program is designd for those who hold a bachelor's degree and seek to qualify for state Teacher Certification for secondary education (grades 7-12). This program, consisting of a blend of online coursework and field experiences, is designed for career-changers as well as those who already serve as temporary, emergency, or substitute teachers and wish to earn a formal teaching certification.

All graduate credits earned in this program may be applied toward the Master's Degree in Secondary Education Online Program. Certification areas include: Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Space Science, English, General Science, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science and Social Studies.

Building on Drexel's long history of experiential education, many courses in this program offer opportunities for stuents to bring theory into practice. Courses are paired with field components that places students in secondary classrooms (grades 7-12) in order to add depth to what they are learning in their course work as they see it applied with secondary learners.

The program will prepare students for a Pennsylvania Instructional I Certificate. Upon completion of this program and the necessary licensing exams, students are eligible to apply to Pennsylvania Department of Education for their Certificate
