About the Program

The certificate develops an integrated understanding of how students learn in undergraduate STEM contexts and how instruction can be designed to support that learning. Learners engage with evidence-based pedagogy, active learning, assessment, inclusive teaching, and the relationship between disciplinary knowledge and instruction. They build skills in designing and implementing instructional strategies, analyzing student thinking, evaluating teaching, and connecting research in STEM education to practice. The program also supports the development of a professional stance that values student thinking, continuous improvement, and expanding access and success in STEM fields.

Courses model the pedagogies being studied through active participation, discussion, and collaborative work. Admission Requirements

Undergraduate or graduate degree in a STEM discipline. Potential students without a degree in a STEM content area will be considered with supporting letters of recommendation from STEM faculty members at institutions of higher learning.
