About the Program

Students in the Master of Public Health in Environmental Health Sciences (EHS) program learn the skills needed to protect vulnerable populations from today’s environmental public health challenges. These challenges include global climate change, air and water pollution, food safety and security, worker health and safety, and the threat of emerging infectious diseases. The MPH in EHS prepares students to assess exposure to environmental hazards, understand their health consequences, and develop strategies to prevent harm to human health in an equitable way. 

After completing the degree program, graduates will be able to apply their knowledge and skills to make the ambient and built environments healthier, promote health and prevent illnesses and injuries in the workplace, ensure safe food and consumer products, and prepare for public health emergencies around the globe. Graduates work in government, nonprofit organizations, and the private sector.

Foundational Public Health Knowledge: Public Health Foundations is only required for students who do not have a degree from a CEPH accredited school. Students who have a degree from a CEPH accredited school will take an elective in place of Public Health Foundations

Students can take additional 5000-9999 level electives across the university with Program Director approval.

Students may be able to use elective credits to further focus their academic work by coupling a DSPH graduate certificate. Students must have enough applicable elective credits to complete the certificate program without going beyond the required credits for the program. Students can contact their academic advisor for more information.
