About the Program

The MS in Infection Prevention and Control trains students to work as professionals in infection prevention across healthcare and public health settings. Coursework addresses infectious disease processes, epidemiological concepts, surveillance in the healthcare setting, prevention and control of infectious agents in the healthcare setting, principles related to a safe environment of care, and patient and healthcare professional safety. The program includes a capstone experience in which students apply concepts and knowledge they’ve learned through coursework to address infection prevention challenges in a healthcare setting.

This program prepares students for careers focused on preventing and managing infectious diseases in healthcare, public health, and consulting. Graduates often become infection preventionists in hospitals or long-term care facilities, epidemiologists in health departments, or consultants advising healthcare organizations and industry. The degree builds expertise in surveillance, compliance, program management, and education, making professionals valuable in protecting patients, communities, and organizations from infection risks.

The degree is offered entirely online to provide qualified students and working professionals with the opportunity to earn these credentials regardless of time or physical location constraints. The program is geared to prepare students for frontline and leadership positions in infection prevention and control.

Foundational Public Health Knowledge: Public Health Foundations is only required for students who do not have a degree from a CEPH accredited school. Students who have a degree from a CEPH accredited school will take an elective in place of Public Health Foundations
