Minor in Operations and Supply Chain Management
About the Minor
The minor in Operations and Supply Chain Management can beneficially be combined with many majors. In this minor, students learn how organizations design and coordinate the productive processes that link departments within a firm and link firms to their customers and suppliers. Relevant tasks include demand forecasting, capacity planning, network design, risk management, and performance measurement. The coursework explores how decisions in such areas affect customer service, revenue, cost, and overall business success. Consequently, students in marketing can better understand how an advertising campaign can affect production requirements, students in finance see how inventory and supply decisions affect short-term capital, students in engineering bridge the gap between design and production, etc. This minor helps students understand what is happening behind the scenes when products and services are produced, sourced, and delivered.
Admissions Requirements
Students are required to declare a major before declaring a minor. Students admitted directly into a specific major at the time of matriculation may declare a minor beginning in their second semester. All requirements for the minor must be completed either concurrently with or prior to the completion of the primary major requirements. This ensures that students fulfill the expectations of their primary field of study while completing any additional areas of academic specialization.
