Minor in Data Science

About the Minor

Data science provides a foundation for problem-solving in a data-driven society. The minor in Data Science combines basic courses in statistics, information and technology, and social contexts to address problems that require large and disparate datasets.

Any student in any major can benefit from a minor in data science. Graduates with such background knowledge are prepared to actively participate in the application of data science within their major area of study.

Admission Requirements

The minor is available to all University students in good standing with the exception of students majoring in Data Science.

Students are required to declare a major before declaring a minor. Students admitted directly into a specific major at the time of matriculation may declare a minor beginning in their second semester. All requirements for the minor must be completed either concurrently with or prior to the completion of the primary major requirements. This ensures that students fulfill the expectations of their primary field of study while completing any additional areas of academic specialization.

Note: Students may share at most 9 credits between this minor and any other major or minor. For each additional course above that counts towards another requirement, students must replace that course in the minor requirements with an additional course from the list of electives.
