About the Program
The Bachelor of Science in Economics and Mathematics is a STEM-designated joint undergraduate degree that integrates economic theory with rigorous mathematical training. The program is designed for students who want to understand economic behavior, markets, and policy using formal models and analytical reasoning. By combining economics with mathematics, students develop a disciplined approach to analyzing complex problems, evaluating trade-offs, and reasoning carefully about economic and social outcomes using well-defined theoretical frameworks.
The curriculum brings together core coursework in economics and mathematics in a balanced and complementary way. In economics, students study foundational and intermediate theory, including microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics, with additional opportunities to engage in mathematically oriented economic analysis. In mathematics, students complete a structured sequence covering calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations, along with supporting work in probability and statistics and additional electives. Together, these course groupings provide students with the tools needed to formulate and analyze economic models, understand dynamic and uncertain environments, and interpret empirical evidence with precision, while still allowing flexibility through electives.
Drexel’s distinctive experiential education model offers students structured opportunities to integrate academic study with professional experience. Through the cooperative (co-op) education program, students can engage in full-time work experiences that align with their economics and mathematical interests. Experiential learning opportunities such as co-op placements complement the degree by emphasizing analytical reasoning and quantitative problem-solving, giving students opportunities to apply economic and mathematical concepts in real-world organizational and policy contexts.
Graduates of the Economics and Mathematics program are prepared for a broad range of analytical careers across the public and private sectors. The combined training supports roles in economic analysis, consulting, finance, risk and market analysis, and policy evaluation, as well as analytically focused positions in technology and industry. The program also provides strong preparation for graduate study in economics, applied mathematics, statistics, public policy, and related quantitative fields. By developing both theoretical insight and mathematical rigor, graduates are well positioned for careers that demand careful modeling, logical reasoning, and disciplined analysis of complex economic problems.
