About the Program
The International Business Major prepares students to understand and navigate the complex forces shaping business activity across national borders. Students develop a strong foundation in global trade, international finance, economic development, and the strategic management of multinational corporations. They learn to analyze political, economic, cultural, and ethical differences across countries and assess how these factors influence markets, firms, and public policy. Through coursework and research-driven projects, students build analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, gaining the ability to evaluate international market opportunities, manage risk, and make informed decisions in diverse global contexts. The program also emphasizes professional values such as ethical responsibility, sustainability, and cultural awareness.
Students learn through an interdisciplinary curriculum that integrates perspectives from international business, economics, finance, management, and marketing. Courses emphasize applied analysis, data-driven decision-making, case studies, and research projects focused on real-world global challenges. Experiential opportunities include cooperative education, study abroad, global classrooms, and participation in the Global Learning Community. Additional optional learning opportunities include international consulting residency courses, in which students work in teams to advise organizations abroad and present recommendations during an overseas residency. Students may also incorporate foreign language study and use free electives to combine international business with another major or minor.
Graduates are well prepared for careers in multinational corporations, international consulting, trade and logistics, finance, government, and nonprofit or international institutions. Alumni pursue roles in global strategy, market analysis, sourcing, and economic policy. The program also provides a strong foundation for graduate study in business, economics, international relations, or public policy, as well as for globally oriented roles in public service and international development.
The major draws on faculty expertise across multiple departments and leverages Drexel’s experiential learning model, including cooperative education and global consulting experiences. This combination of rigorous academics, applied research, and sustained global engagement distinguishes the program and equips students to succeed in an increasingly interconnected and evolving international business environment.
