Minor in Poetry, Biblio and Expressive Writing Facilitation
About the Minor
This minor will offer students an introduction to aspects of poetry, prose, and expressive writing that can contribute to human, health and well-being. Students will learn about different genres of literature, as they relate to the diversity of human experiences, as well as how creative expression can be a resource for resilience and restoration. In addition, students will learn strategies to engage with writing and reading as lifelong skills for self-care and personal development.
Students will learn how poetry, prose, and expressive writing can be therapeutic and enhance health and well-being; basic awareness of group dynamics; introductory therapeutic facilitation skills; the role of narratives in human lives, understanding of the range of human emotions; self-regulation; interpersonal communication; and; intrapersonal awareness.
This minor can be completed in conjunction with a wide range of majors including but not limited to English, Psychology, Health Sciences, Nursing, Sociology, General Studies, Philosophy, Communication, Global public health, Law, Criminal Justice, Business, Arts, Education, and Health Services Administration.
Admission Requirements
Students are required to declare a major before declaring a minor. Students admitted directly into a specific major at the time of matriculation may declare a minor beginning in their second semester. All requirements for the minor must be completed either concurrently with or prior to the completion of the primary major requirements. This ensures that students fulfill the expectations of their primary field of study while completing any additional areas of academic specialization.
