About the Program
The online Certificate in Maternal and Child Health (MCH) provides MCH practitioners desiring accessible training in MCH with core knowledge and skills needed to effectively promote the health and well-being of mothers, infants, children, and families in local, domestic, and global settings. The certificate will utilize the five MCH competencies for curriculum development and evaluation (ATMCH, 2001): scientific basis, methodological/analytical skills, management and communication skills, policy and advocacy skills, and values and ethics in MCH public health practice.
Students accepted into the MCH Certificate program are designated as MCH Catalyst Trainees through the MCH Public Health Catalyst Training Program at the Drexel Dornsife School of Public Health. This training program is supported by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) at the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Opportunities for MCH Trainees include online and hybrid learning and social opportunities with others interested in MCH, mentorship, MCH career networking events, participation in national MCH internships and conferences, networking opportunities with MCH professionals and trainees across the country, student leadership positions in the MCH student groups, MCH research and service opportunities, and an array of MCH-focused events including MCH Speaker Series Webinars, Online MCH Journal Clubs, Leadership Workshops/Projects, and Symposia.
Students develop skills in critical thinking, application, and analysis of MCH issues through achieving nationally recognized MCH Leadership Competencies. As MCH Catalyst Trainees, students in this program will also be afforded additional MCH opportunities both within Drexel and nationally through HRSA/MCHB. Graduates of this training program are poised for entry and upward advancement into the MCH workforce or related MCH graduate programs.
The certificate is offered entirely online to provide qualified students and working professionals with an opportunity to acquire these credentials regardless of restrictions in time and physical location. Those who successfully complete the certificate program and wish to broaden their scope of public health education could pursue an MPH degree program.
