ARCH 3502 Structural Systems II 3.0 Credits
This course examines advanced topics of structural design in architecture with a focus on how structural considerations help enable and inform architectural design. Students analyze concrete and steel-framed systems and explore how the selection of materials and structural systems can support broader architectural goals. Students learn to analyze and design concrete beams and steel tension elements, beams, and columns. Fundamentals of load-bearing masonry and foundations are discussed. Students complete a term project to analyze the structural requirements of a common building type, and they perform preliminary design of the structural system.
