ARCH 3620 Passive House 3.0 Credits

This course introduces passive house design principles for low-energy, high-comfort buildings. Students study climate and site response; envelope insulation and thermal bridge reduction; airtightness and moisture control; high-performance windows and shading; balanced ventilation with heat or energy recovery; and right-sized heating, cooling, and domestic hot water. The course frames targets and tradeoffs within codes, ethics, and equity. Learning formats include lectures, readings, case studies, and field observations. Expected work includes analyses, sketches, details, and short reports that demonstrate performance-based decision making.
