ARCH 3835 Ecological Thinking in Architecture 3.0 Credits
This course examines the relationship between “Built” and “Environment,” reframing sustainability as an interconnected web of ecological, social, and material systems rather than a checklist. Students explore how design decisions shape large-scale ecological outcomes and influence what “green” solutions are possible. Through readings, fieldwork, and design exercises, they learn how ecological knowledge emerges across scales and stakeholders, including scientists, Indigenous communities, designers, and citizens, to develop strategies for responsive, ethical, and ecologically attuned architectural practice.
