ARTH 1002 Politics of Style 3.0 Credits

This course explores how style is not a purely visual or surface characteristic of objects but also has deeper structural meaning that shapes how objects are made, who makes them, and who uses them and how. Students in this course will develop an understanding of what we call "style" and how it is generated by particular historical and material conditions, and even when these conditions change and styles are revived, how certain features endure while others are modified to fit new cultural demands.

https://catalog.drexel.edu/undergraduate/media-arts-design/minor-art-history/
Through the Art History minor, students explore how artworks, designed objects, mass communication forms, and built environments shape and are shaped by their political, social, and personal contexts. Students develop skills in visual analysis, argument construction, and effective communication, while also expanding their knowledge of historical and contemporary discourses. Cross-cultural and interdisciplinary, the field of art history illuminates the diverse and global worlds we inhabit as well as the integral relationships between art, design, and lived experience. In our program, students learn how to explore these contexts critically and compassionately.
