ARTH 4999 Art History Senior Capstone 3.0 Credits

This course comprises a capstone research project developed during senior year under the advisement of a thesis director from among the faculty. The thesis student will meet regularly with the advisor who will provide direction for their research by helping them to develop a topic, identify appropriate resources, discuss interpretive strategies, and determine the expository structure of the project. The final project’s structure can be a research paper, an exhibition, or another format agreed upon with faculty advisor.

Through the Art History minor, students explore how artworks, designed objects, mass communication forms, and built environments shape and are shaped by their political, social, and personal contexts. Students develop skills in visual analysis, argument construction, and effective communication, while also expanding their knowledge of historical and contemporary discourses. Cross-cultural and interdisciplinary, the field of art history illuminates the diverse and global worlds we inhabit as well as the integral relationships between art, design, and lived experience. In our program, students learn how to explore these contexts critically and compassionately.
