BIO 1111 General Biology I 3.0 Credits
The course provides students with a basic understanding of how cells function and communicate with one another within tissues and organs. The basics of energy capture and utilization will be covered. In addition, the molecular structure of DNA and chromosomes, how DNA is replicated, and the inheritance of cellular and genetic information (including Mendelian and non-Mendelian patterns of inheritance) will be studied. Students will also explore molecular mechanisms of gene expression from DNA to RNA to protein and its regulation in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic systems. This course is intended for STEM majors.
