BLAW 3310 Business Risks: Torts, Negligence and Consumer Protection 3.0 Credits

This course introduces students to the legal risks businesses face when their actions or inactions cause harm to others. Students will explore the fundamentals of tort law, including negligence, legal duties owed between individuals and businesses, causation, and damages. The course also covers strict liability, common business-related torts, defenses, and concepts such as vicarious and joint liability. In addition, students will examine key issues in consumer protection law, including fraud and false advertising. By the end of the course, students will understand how tort law shapes business behavior and how companies can reduce legal exposure through sound practices and ethical decision-making.
