BMES 4421 Cardiovascular Mechanics 3.0 Credits

This course emphasizes the application of engineering and fundamental fluid mechanics to understand and model the properties of the cardiovascular system of the human body. This will be achieved through a mastery of fundamental laws that govern biofluid mechanics and the development of a strong knowledge base in cardiovascular physiology. Emphasis will be on steady and unsteady blood flow, medical devices that are used to evaluate or support the cardiovascular system, and an understanding of healthy physiological conditions as well as pathophysiological conditions, such as heart failure, trauma, diabetes, high blood pressure, valvular disease, and congenital heart defects.
