BMES 4432 Nanoscale Biomechanics 3.0 Credits

This course aims to provide students with the fundamental knowledge and latest scientific developments in molecular mechanics of biological materials. The first half of the course will introduce interdisciplinary theoretical background including molecular physics, electrostatics, colloidal science, biocompatibility and polymer mechanics. The second half will describe the state-of-the-art nanotechnology and most recent nanomechanics-related biomechanical and biomedical research. Students are expected to gain an understanding of molecular-level mechanics knowledge in biological systems, and to grasp the basic design and operation principles of nanomechanical instruments.
