BMES 4662 Algorithms in Bioinformatics and Genomic Analysis 3.0 Credits
This course introduces the foundational principles, algorithms, computational techniques, and analytical frameworks used in modern bioinformatics and genomic analysis. Students learn how biological information is encoded and regulated at the genomic level, and how sequence‑based data can be analyzed to address questions in molecular biology, evolution, and biomedical research. Topics include sequence alignment, homology detection, database search strategies, multiple alignment, motif discovery, genome sequencing and assembly, phylogenetics, clinical variant interpretation, and structural bioinformatics.
Repeat Status: Not repeatable for credit
Prerequisites: BIO 1111 [Min Grade: D] and BMES 1610 [Min Grade: D]
