BMES 5411 Joint Biomechanics and Modeling 3.0 Credits

The course provides an overview of the basic principles of biomechanics, namely the application of mechanical tools for the determination of human system performance. The course topics will cover aspects of biomechanics taxonomy and include an overview of musculoskeletal anatomy, the biomechanical properties of soft tissue and bone, analysis of forces in static and dynamic biological systems, linear and angular dynamics of human movement, energy and power in human activity, and application of stress and strain analysis of biological tissues. A brief overview of the application of biomechanics in the design of medical devices will be provided. Course format will include lectures, lab sessions, student presentations, and exams.
