CHP 5003 Community Engagement in Public Health Practice and Research 3.0 Credits
This course seeks to orient students from all methodological viewpoints to the historical and theoretical background of community-engaged public health practice and research. Course content focuses on the principals and practical tools and strategies for authentic and equitable engagement with community stakeholders – including community leaders, community-based nonprofits and other organizations, and community residents – to design public health programs and research that will best address complex, multilevel public health problems and lead with the community’s self-identified needs and strengths. This is a service-learning course that addresses a current need or challenge of a community-based organization, and is grounded in social justice, participatory engagement, and community capacity building.
