CHP 5015 Overview of Maternal and Child Health 3.0 Credits
Maternal and child health is one of the most critical areas of public health, shaping the well-being of families, communities, and future generations. Students will utilize the life course framework to examine the complex relationships among biological, social, environmental, and policy factors that impact the health of mothers, children, and families. Topics covered include reproductive health, family planning, prenatal care, pregnancy, childbirth, and birth outcomes, while also exploring how social determinants of health contribute to inequities and disparities in MCH outcomes. Through discussion of real-world policies, programs, and public health challenges, students will analyze how systems and communities can support healthier beginnings and better outcomes for all families.
