CHP 6062 Intersectional Perspectives 3.0 Credits

Intersectionality posits that social identities and systems of inequality, such as ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, disability, and other social positions, are interdependent and mutually constitutive rather than independent or additive. This course introduces public health students to foundational and contemporary scholarship on intersectionality within the social sciences, with a particular focus on applications in public health research and practice. Students will examine how intersecting social identities and structural systems of power shape lived experiences, health risks, and health outcomes across populations. Through engagement with theory and empirical studies, this course explores how intersectional frameworks can inform equitable health research, policy, and practice.
