COM 5520 Vlogging - Storytelling in the Digital Age 3.0 Credits

This course provides students with applied and theoretical knowledge of the current state of vlogging as a popular storytelling tool in the Communication industry. Students will examine the various techniques, best practices, and practical uses of creating vlogs. Students then become digital content creators themselves by choosing a niche topic aimed at a target audience and learning how to document and optimize long-form content and integrate images to create and publish a professional, branded and visually appealing YouTube Channel. Students will consider issues of credibility, promotion, monetization, marketing, and branding. The ethical issues of vlogging, such as influencer/sponsored content and sources for copyright free photo/image use are explored.
