COM 6030 Communication Ethics and Media Policy 3.0 Credits

Understanding the foundations of the policies, laws and regulations that govern media and communication has become crucial for communication professionals, as it provides the basis for ethical decision-making process. We will critically explore the systems that administer and interpret media policies, and the public policy apparatus those relationships create, including issues such as platform regulation, defamation, digital divide, and more. Based on such knowledge, students will explore how to confront conflicting interests ethically in an ever-evolving media communication landscape. We will analyze ethical issues such as social media usage in crisis situations, balancing human control while using AI tools, etc.
