CS 2220 Systems Foundations 3.0 Credits
This course explores the critical interface between application software and the operating system, focusing on how hardware resources are managed. Students learn C programming in a Linux environment, using it to delve into compilation, linking, and system calls. The course covers essential OS mechanisms like process management and Inter-Process Communication (IPC). It also introduces concurrent programming concepts, including threads and synchronization primitives, to build robust code and prevent common pitfalls like race conditions and deadlocks. Programming assignments build practical skills in writing efficient, correct systems code. The course prepares students for advanced work in performance-critical and distributed systems.
