CS 5020 Systems Basics 3.0 Credits
This course introduces the critical interface between application software and the operating system, focusing on how hardware resources are managed. Students learn C programming in a Linux environment to explore compilation, linking, and system calls. The course covers essential OS mechanisms such as process management and Inter-Process Communication (IPC), and introduces basic concurrent programming concepts, including threads and synchronization primitives. Programming assignments develop practical skills and build a strong foundation for further study in systems, cybersecurity, or high-performance computing.
Repeat Status: Not repeatable for credit
Prerequisites: CS 5010 [Min Grade: D] (Can be taken Concurrently) or CS 501 [Min Grade: D]
