CW 5030 Craft Workshop III: Point of View and Dialogue 3.0 Credits

This craft course examines Point of View and Dialogue. Through close reading, discussion, and writing exercises, the course will investigate strategies for selecting and sustaining point of view across a narrative, as well as techniques for crafting dialogue that reveal character, advance plot and create subtext. Students will analyze published works to understand how authors manipulate perspective and conversation to build tension, reveal character and relationships and layer complexity. In workshop, students will apply these insights to their own writing, experimenting with shifts in viewpoint and dialogue-driven scenes to develop a nuanced understanding of how these elements work to animate story and character.
