CW 6040 Craft Workshop IV: Revision 3.0 Credits

Through close reading, discussion and targeted exercises, the course will examine approaches to re-envisioning narrative structure, deepening character arcs, sharpening language, and heightening thematic resonance. Students will analyze published works to understand how writers transform drafts into polished stories, identifying techniques for cutting, expanding and restructuring material to strengthen impact. In workshop, students will apply these strategies to their own drafts, experimenting with methods such as reordering scenes, refining voice, and amplifying tension. By the end of the course, students will develop a personalized revision toolkit and a nuanced understanding of how revision functions as an essential stage of the creative process.
