DIGM 2010 Critical Media Studies 3.0 Credits

The course takes a close look at pressing debates in media studies and production. Students will encounter scholarly publications and critical artistic interventions asking important ethical questions of tomorrow’s media makers. Topics covered may include: ethical use of machine learning technologies; how market pressures shape whose stories get told and how they get told; and the environmental costs of new technologies. The course will hone students’ argumentative skills and inform their ethical engagements with emerging technologies. Students can expect in-class debates and creative assignments that ask how we can make media more just and equitable, and to question how we engage with media in our professional and everyday lives.
