ECON 6661 Health Economics 3.0 Credits
This course covers the economics of health and health care. Students will gain an understanding of how health is produced, how health insurance markets work, the government role in health care, cost benefit analysis, the markets for pharmaceuticals and physician and hospital services, vertical and horizontal integration, quality, health care in other countries, medical malpractice, and social determinants of health. The course will include in discussion based on in class exercises as well as quantitative exercise using techniques introduced in the course. This course should be of interest to students who are interested in public policy and business issues surrounding health, health care, and health care reform.
