EDEX 5020 Special Education Law, Policy, and Practice 3.0 Credits
This course provides an in-depth examination of the legal and procedural foundations of special education across early intervention and school-age systems. Grounded in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), students explore the full lifecycle of the special education process, including child find, evaluation, programming, placement, and key transition points. Emphasis is placed on applied practice and leadership skills—collaboration, problem-solving, documentation, progress monitoring, and early dispute resolution. Students analyze landmark and contemporary case law and engage with authentic scenarios that reflect school-based practice.
