EDEX 6060 Special Education Student Teaching and Practice Seminar 3.0 Credits
This culminating seminar prepares candidates for professional practice through supervised field placement and reflective practice. As the final requirement for initial certification, candidates complete at least 12 weeks of full-time student teaching in an approved setting serving students with disabilities. During this Stage 4 experience, candidates assume full instructional responsibility, including planning, delivering, and assessing instruction; establishing supportive, structured learning environments; and collaborating with families and teams. Candidates are observed and evaluated by a university supervisor. Emphasis is placed on data-driven instruction, individualized supports, positive classroom climates, and development and implementation of IEPs in accordance with legal and ethical standards.
