EDEX 6120 Special Education Law, Advocacy and Collaborative Team Facilitation 3.0 Credits
This course applies the legal and advocacy principles of IDEA to everyday school practice. Students develop practical skills in collaboration, team facilitation, multi-party communication, early conflict identification, and problem-solving, drawing on special education law, early dispute-resolution strategies, and leadership-in-action routines. A central focus is facilitating agreement by building shared understanding and aligning perspectives across roles. Through guided practice, case-based and scenario-driven applications, students learn to prevent disputes when possible, navigate them effectively when they occur, support compliant IEP implementation, manage multi-stakeholder team dynamics, and make legally sound, student-centered decisions that reduce risk.
