EDU 5155 Teaching Secondary English 3.0 Credits

This course critically examines literacy instruction supporting reading and writing development in elementary classrooms, emphasizing the connection between theory, research, and effective practice. Topics include phonics and spelling, reading and writing fluency, listening and reading comprehension, vocabulary, and the reading-writing connection. Students will explore evolving literacy research to develop critical frameworks for evaluating instruction methods. Students will analyze and apply differentiation techniques to meet diverse learner needs and will select and interpret assessments to make data-driven instructional decisions. This course includes fieldwork and clearances are required.
