EDU 8840 Politics of Urban Education Reform 3.0 Credits
This seminar examines how political interests, governance structures, and public narratives shape reform efforts in urban education systems. Students engage research on accountability, school choice, privatization, funding, labor relations, and community resistance. The course explores why reforms gain traction, how they are implemented, and what consequences follow for schools and communities. Emphasis is placed on interpreting research outcomes, comparing policy evidence, and analyzing intended and unintended effects of reform. Students develop tools for rigorous scholarship on the politics of educational change.
