EDUC 529 Early Literacy 3.0 Credits

Course examines research-validated literacy instruction and literacy interventions. Topics include; phonics, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and the reading-writing connection. Significant emphasis is placed on the socio-cultural aspects of reading: appreciating linguistic diversity, integrating cultural narratives, building reading communities, and motivating children through authentic reading and writing experiences. This course has a Stage 1-2 field component, successful completion of the field component is required for recommendation for certification.
