EOH 5012 Infection Prevention and Control in the Healthcare Environment 3.0 Credits
This course will cover the major risks of infection in healthcare settings, as well as surveillance and prevention strategies for healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). Important concepts in infection prevention and control in the healthcare environment will be reviewed, including hand hygiene, surveillance plans, standard and transmission-based precautions, construction and engineering, performance improvement for HAI reduction, cleaning and disinfection, and exposure and outbreak investigations. Students will learn about state and federal mandates for Infection Prevention and Control programs, the National Healthcare Surveillance System (NHSN) as well as the major regulatory agencies, organizations, and professional standards that guide infection prevention and control within healthcare facilities.
