EPI 5000 Introduction to Epidemiology 3.0 Credits
Epidemiology is the science of understanding the distribution and determinants of disease in human populations. This course introduces the foundational epidemiologic principles and methods that shape public health research and practice across disciplines. Students will learn to design epidemiologic studies, interpret published findings, and calculate key measures of disease occurrence and association. Topics include study design, bias, confounding, random error, causality, and the validity of diagnostic tests. These topics are integrated via critical appraisal of epidemiologic research studies at a basic level. By the end of this course, students will gain a foundational epidemiologic skill set needed to participate in public health research and practice in the various disciplines of public health.
