ESS 3021 Earth Materials 4.0 Credits
Earth Materials explores the physical and chemical properties, classification, and origin of the minerals and rocks that compose Earth’s crust. The course covers crystallography and mineral chemistry, the formation and associations of igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks, and how mineral and rock characteristics record geologic processes. Laboratory work emphasizes observation, identification, and interpretation of common minerals and rock types through hands-on methods and analytical tools.
