ESS 4540 Science in Environmental Policy 3.0 Credits
Effective policy for the environment needs science. Yet it can seem that policies are insufficiently informed by researchers’ best knowledge. Why is that? And what can researchers do to help ensure that their findings will be taken up in public policy? This course introduces what social scientists have learned about how and why policymakers take up scientific knowledge. Based on those empirical findings, students will craft a strategy for making research more influential in policy and public discourse.
