ESS 5095 Remote Sensing 4.0 Credits

Remote Sensing introduces the principles and applications of Earth observation using airborne and satellite sensors, with emphasis on image acquisition and analysis across the electromagnetic spectrum from UV through radio wavelengths. Topics include the nature of electromagnetic radiation, sensor characteristics, image preprocessing, digital classification, and spectral interpretation. Laboratory work emphasizes hands-on processing, visualization, and quantitative analysis of multispectral, LiDAR and radar data using industry-standard software, enabling students to extract and interpret environmental and land-surface information from remotely sensed imagery.
