FASH 5209 Patternmaking and Construction Studio I 3.0 Credits
This studio course expands on industrial sewing fundamentals by integrating flat pattern and draping techniques into a cohesive, project-based curriculum. Students strengthen their pattern-making and construction skills through hands-on work that includes sloper development, muslin construction for bodices and dresses, and exploration of fit and proportion. Special labs introduce materials such as denim and leather, while demonstrations cover grading for bodices, sleeves, and dresses. The course emphasizes inclusive sizing, precision in fit, and the relationship between 2D pattern design and 3D form. Through these projects, students apply both pattern-making and draping methods in a professional context, preparing them for advanced work in fashion design.
