GSST 2025 Gender, Sexuality, and Religion 3.0 Credits

This course takes seriously the intersections of gender, sexuality, and religion. It studies how gender and sexuality are central to understanding religious communities and their histories. The course will analyze historical and contemporary contexts to learn how feminisms and queer theory have contributed to contemporary debates about gender and sexuality across communities. This course does not offer comprehensive discussions of any one religious tradition. It provides students with entry points into the study of religious traditions by exploring the key characteristics of diverse feminist and queer studies approaches to religion, as well as the limits of those approaches. Suitable for students from across disciplines.
