GSST 2030 Gender, Sexuality, and Disability Studies 3.0 Credits
This course critically examines disability as a social, political, and spatial phenomenon that informs gender and sexuality studies. Students will read non-fiction and fiction from the disability justice movement, attending to ways that disability intersects with feminist and queer activism. The course traces how ableism has been produced through systems of oppression and domination, such as slavery, colonialism, and incarceration, as well as through movements in science, medicine, environmentalism, labor, and the wellness industry. Students will also explore how disability is shaped by practices of care and mutual aid, lived experiences of embodiment, and broader definitions of survival.
